World Alzheimer’s Day on 21 September: Lithuania Participates in the European “JADE Health” initiative

World Alzheimer’s Day, which takes place every September 21st, highlights the burden of the disease as the most common cause of dementia. In Lithuania, more than 44,000 individuals have been diagnosed with various forms of dementia.
In response, Lithuania has joined the European initiative JADE Health (Joint Action addressing DEmentia and HEALTH). The project aims to systematically reduce the burden of dementia and related neurological disorders in the European Union. Its focus areas include prevention, early diagnosis, strengthening health literacy, and providing comprehensive care.
The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) is an active participant in the project. The university leads a working group responsible for analysing care pathways for people with dementia, from diagnosis to long-term care. LSMU scientist are also contributing to the development of early diagnostic methods and prevention recommendations. The project also plans to implement pilot, person-centered care models based on best international practices.
The LSMU team contributing to the joint activities of JADE Health consists of: Prof. Dr. Jūratė Macijauskienė, Prof. Dr. Ida Liseckienė, Dr. Greta Najūtė, Assoc. Prof. Lina Danusevičienė, Prof. Dr. Aistė Pranckevičienė, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raimonda Petrolienė, and Dr. Birutė Bartkevičiūtė.
