LSMU on Track to Join NeurotechEU, with New Partnership Opportunities Ahead
The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) is preparing to officially join NeurotechEU – The European University of Brain and Technology. Funded by the European Union (EU), this alliance of the European Universities brings together institutions committed to advancing neuroscience and neurotechnology.
Seeking to accelerate the translation of brain research into practical solutions and create new opportunities for professional education and training, the Alliance is building inter-university Synapses – networks connecting universities through neurotechnology and rapidly advancing research in medicine, engineering, artificial intelligence, robotics and other disciplines.
The Synapses currently bring together nine European universities: Radboud University (the Netherlands), Miguel Hernández University of Elche (Spain), Karolinska Institutet (Sweden), the University of Bonn (Germany), Boğaziçi University (Türkiye), Iuliu Hațieganu University (Romania), the University of Lille (France), Reykjavík University (Iceland), and the Medical University of Innsbruck (Austria).
The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences is also taking steps to join this international network.
Membership in the Alliance would offer the LSMU academic community even more opportunities for international collaboration. Students would be able to participate in training courses, summer and winter schools, and other activities offered by partner universities. It would also open up extensive opportunities in research, research infrastructure, mobility and innovation.
The first meeting of the LSMU Synapse Club took place on 29 September. Participants were introduced to the NeurotechEU Alliance as well as the opportunities available and discussed what activities could be developed at LSMU within the framework of the Alliance.
“The establishment of a NeurotechEU Synapse at our University marks the beginning of a new community and will serve as a starting point for future LSMU community initiatives in neuroscience and neurotechnology,” said Karolis Bareikis, lecturer and neurosurgeon at the Department of Neurosurgery, Faculty of Medicine, LSMU.
According to LSMU medical student Ignas Jusis, Head of the LSMU Synapse Steering Group, the meeting was only the first step.
“We are currently developing ideas for future activities, and more information about the LSMU Synapse Club, its activities and opportunities to get involved will be announced shortly. We encourage everyone to follow the latest news, join our initiatives and become actively involved in the NeurotechEU community,” said Jusis.
Members of the LSMU academic community interested in NeurotechEU activities are already eligible to create an account on the NeurotechEU Campus+ platform using their official University email address. The platform provides access to courses and other learning opportunities offered by partner universities and allows users to keep up with the latest NeurotechEU news.
