Call for Early-Career Researchers – “My First Research Team”

Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) invites outstanding early-career researchers to apply for a Group Leader Position in Biomedical and Data-Driven Research and to establish their first independent research group under the national funding initiative “My First Research Team”. The position is supported through a national funding scheme designed to foster early research independence.
A total of 9 research teams will be selected. Each successful applicant will establish an independent research unit at LSMU and implement an original research project for a period of up to three years, with funding of up to EUR 350,000 per team to support personnel costs and project implementation, including the salary of the Research Group Leader (up to EUR 60,000 per year, gross). All proposed research activities must align with the national Smart Specialisation priorities.
THEMATIC SCOPE
Applicants are invited to propose an original and independent research project aligned with one or more of the following thematic areas:
- Advanced biological models and personalised medicine
- Metabolomics and metabolic biomarkers in health and disease
- Cancer immunology and personalised T cell-based therapies
- Systems medicine, multi-omics data integration and artificial intelligence
- Vascular biology and mechanisms of pathological remodelling
- Personalised theranostics and multimodal imaging technologies
- Neuroinflammation and mechanisms of neurodegeneration
- AI-driven diagnostic and monitoring solutions integrating biomarkers and sensor technologies in veterinary and animal health research
- Personalised medicine in oncology
Projects may span multiple thematic areas.
Successful applicants will be appointed as Research Group Leaders (Principal Investigators, PI) and will be responsible for developing and implementing an autonomous research project, as well as for building and coordinating an independent research group.
