The Apiculture Center

RESEARCH AND PRACTICE

The Apiculture Center of the Faculty of Animal Sciences of the Veterinary Academy of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences is a functional department of the Faculty of Animal Sciences, participating in the faculty’s publicity activities, dissemination of knowledge and experience based on scientific research, implementation of study programmes, and the processes of consulting and training of apiculture specialists.

OBJECTIVES OF THE CENTRE

  • to participate in the publicity activities of the Faculty of Animal Sciences;
  • to conduct modern research in the field of apiculture;
  • to develop and disseminate scientific knowledge and experience in the field of apiculture;
  • to develop and popularise beekeeping in Lithuania, in cooperation with scientists from the Medical and Veterinary Academies of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, representatives of Lithuanian and international apiculture organisations and various apiculture fields: scientists, beekeepers, bee breeders, veterinarians, food science and food and pharmaceutical industry specialists.

Activities

  • participating in LSMU activities related to studies conducted at the Faculty of Animal Sciences;
  • popularising beekeeping and developing it based on scientific knowledge;
  • participating in scientific activities, preparing and implementing scientific projects;
  • organising and conducting scientific research on beekeeping, breeding, genetics, quality and use of bee products, and other interdisciplinary research in the field of beekeeping, in cooperation with other departments of the Medical and Veterinary Academies of LSMU;
  • conducting educational activities in the field of beekeeping, organising and implementing social projects, preparing recommendations for the public on the promotion and development of beekeeping and the quality and use of bee products;
  • organising and providing continuing education services in the field of beekeeping;
  • preparing methodological materials, planning and conducting conferences, seminars, talks, and other activities related to beekeeping;
  • providing guidance on beekeeping subjects to students at various academic levels.
