The International Scientific Conference by the LSMU Veterinary Medicine Faculty on Veterinary Today: Health, Welfare, and Reproduction Management in Dairy Cow Herds to be held on November 8, 2024, at the LSMU Veterinary Academy (Tilžės St. 18, Kaunas, Grand Hall).

The Conference will address the following topics:

  • Dairy cow herd health
  • Dairy cow herd welfare
  • Reproduction control

Speakers

The conference organizers welcome scientists from various countries, including those who will present their scientific reports on the topics:

  • Dr. Natascha Gundling (veterinarian, University of Hannover, Germany). Research field: epidemiological studies of animal health in dairy farms. Her presentation topic is Reproduction Management in a Dairy Cow Herd.
  • Dr. Lorenzo Viora (ECBHM diplomate, veterinarian, University of Glasgow, UK). Research areas: cattle health, production, and welfare aspects, dairy cow reproductive management, udder health, on-farm use of antimicrobials and precision technologies and sensors). His presentation topic is Assessment of the Health of Dairy Cow Herds.
  • Dr. Ioannis Proios (veterinarian, University of Hannover, Germany). Research focuses on cattle digestive tract diseases and abdominal and intestinal disorders in cows). His presentation topic is Digit Amputation in Cattle.

  • Laima Liepa (Dr. med. vet., associate professor, Clinical institute, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, Latvia). Research field: ruminant diseases – focus on metabolic disorders, clinical chemistry, dairy herd health. The topic of her presentation is “Challenges of introducing animal health visits in Latvia”.
  • Ilga Šematoviča (Dr. med. vet., associate professor, Clinical institute, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine,  Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, Latvija). The topic of her presentation is „Managing subacute ruminal acidosis in dairy cattle“
  • .John Cook BVSc DCHP MRCVS, RCVS Recognised Specialist Cattle Health and Production, Technical Veterinarian. University of Glasgow, UK. The topic of her presentation is „Assessing Transition Cow Management in Dairy Herds“.
