We invite you to participate in the lecture “Art Therapy as Added Value to Communication in Health Care”, which will take place on February 20 at 1:00 PM in Room 106 of the LSMU Faculty of Nursing.

Most of the time communication between care recipient and care provider is sufficiently easy going or straight forward. Sometimes it’s more difficult and complex. In this lecture we will explore how art therapy techniques can aid in adding a third medium into the conversation, which might help in making difficult topics more manageable, on both a cognitive and emotional level.

Ann Maes is an art therapist who started her art therapy career working with teenagers at a specialized psychiatric forensic youth unit and is currently working in a day treatment program for teenagers and adolescents at a university psychiatric center. Before pursuing an art therapy degree, Ann worked in residential drug rehabilitation and child, youth and family services in Belgium and gained experience working with families at a community center in New Zealand. Ann is a member of the Belgian Federation for Creative Arts Therapies (BVCT-ABAT) and a lecturer for the Advanced Bachelor program in Creative Arts Therapies at PXL University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hasselt, Belgium. Alongside her roles in both the clinical and educational work field, Ann remains a committed art student herself, exploring the world of conceptual art.
