Lithuanian University of Health Sciences will partner with the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union
Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) has signed a partnership agreement with the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union (LŠS). Both institutions will cooperate to more effectively use the potential of research, studies, joint projects and civic and patriotic education.
The cooperation agreement signed by the Rector of LSMU Prof. Rimantas Benetis and the Commander of LŠS Lieutenant Colonel Linas Izdelis envisages strengthening the traditions cherished by LŠS members and the academic community of the University, simultaneously developing a creative, modern and civic community, and strengthening social partnership.
“The period of the last few years, the turbulent geopolitical situation reminds us: democracy, freedom, independence is not a given – it is a process that requires constant efforts. Future doctors and healthcare professionals can contribute a lot to strengthening society’s citizenship, resilience, and community”, – stated the Rector of LSMU Prof. Rimantas Benetis.
The rector stressed, that the history of the University is closely connected to the history of Lithuanian statehood. “The entire period of Lithuanian independence, medical doctors remained active and responsible creators of their State, not shying away from responsibility in the most difficult periods for the country. Students at our University are educated, continuously improving, dynamic young people. We encourage the youth to be involved not only in their studies but to join in other activities, which help become diverse, responsible, creative personalities”, – said Prof. R. Benetis.
“The activities of the Riflemen’s Union cover many areas, including first aid. If a person knows how to do it, they will be confident in their own strength and will boldly extend a helping hand to those around them. We live in turbulent times, and you never know when such knowledge and skills may be needed. That is why now is the best time to accumulate knowledge and learn from each other”, – thought Commander of the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union Lt. Col. Linas Izdelis.
For Lithuanian riflemen, the University plans to provide information about study opportunities at LSMU, prepare and implement joint international and national projects, and develop scientific research. The partnership also opens opportunities for students to do internships in LŠS departments, for the University community to join LŠS, to learn more about the activities and goals of this organisation.
The university also plans to participate in joint riflemen’s exercises that match the nature of LSMU’s activities. The partnership agreement covers not only joint civic education, education, science, art and cultural, academic events, but also cooperation in such important areas as mutual aid during emergency situations.
The commander of LŠS sees great potential in this partnership with the LSMU community: the riflemen will learn from the doctors and will share with them acquired knowledge and skills in state defence, cyber safety, civic and patriotic education as well as other fields.
“By learning and acting together we can get to know each other better, know each other’s potential – only then in an emergency situation will we be able to act in a focused, united and purposeful way, thus contributing to the greater security of Lithuania”, – expressed his certainty Lt. Col. L. Izdelis.
