LSMU Ranks Among Lithuania’s Top Two Universities
The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) maintains its position as one of the top two universities in the country according to the 2026 assessment of Lithuanian universities published by the magazine Reitingai.
This year, LSMU scored 57.64 points and placed second in the overall university rankings – a position the University has held for the fourth consecutive year. This is a particularly significant achievement, as LSMU is a specialised university focused on studies, research, and clinical practice in life sciences, health sciences, veterinary medicine, and agriculture.
In 2026, the magazine Reitingai evaluated all Lithuanian universities – both public and private – in a combined ranking for the first time.
Universities were assessed according to 43 criteria, grouped into five broad categories: scientific, artistic, or sporting activity and added value to the national economy; alumni-generated added value and employer opinion; students and studies; competitiveness in the international higher education arena; and academic staff.
One of LSMU’s most notable achievements this year was in the alumni-generated added value and employer opinion category. In this section, LSMU achieved the highest score – 27.48 out of a possible 30 points. The assessment took into account an employer survey, graduate employment rates, graduate earnings, and career success.
LSMU graduates’ earnings were particularly outstanding. 18 months after completing undergraduate and integrated degree programmes, LSMU alumni earned an average salary of €3,500 – the highest figure amongst all universities assessed.
The highest average salaries 18 months after completing second-cycle, residency, and professional programmes were also earned by LSMU alumni, with an average of €5,285. LSMU likewise achieved the top result amongst doctoral graduates, with an average salary of €6,401 eighteen months after completing their studies.
LSMU also scored high in the students and studies category as well, with 15.62 points out of a possible 20 points. This category assessed the academic profile of incoming students, their performance in national school-leaving examinations, the proportion graduating on time, the share receiving merit-based scholarships, student dropout rates, and overall study outcomes.
In the employer survey, LSMU graduates’ preparedness for professional life was also rated highly, at 7.93 out of 10. A total of 2,326 Lithuanian employers from various regions of the country and organisations of differing sizes took part in the survey.
The rankings emphasise that graduate employment rates across Lithuanian universities are generally strong; however, LSMU stands out for the high added value created by its alumni, their competitiveness in the labour market, and their earnings.
This year’s results reflect LSMU’s consistent leadership in health sciences and strong professional readiness of its graduates. LSMU’s academic model combines research, practical training, clinical experience, and close collaboration with the healthcare system – making its graduates highly valued in the labour market.
LSMU Gymnasium also has a cause for celebration this year, having placed fourth amongst the best selective gymnasiums in Lithuania in the 2026 rankings.
