IUHW Students Return Home, LSMU Students to Embark on Internships in Japan This Autumn
The visit of students from the International University of Health and Welfare (IUHW) of Japan to the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) has concluded.
“During this time, you have truly become part of the LSMU community,” remarked the Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Rimantas Benetis, who expressed his wish that the students remember their visit fondly.
“In Lithuania, you encountered a wholly different world, people, and culture. Don’t forget Kaunas and the lessons you’ve learned here.”
In Kaunas, the future Japanese doctors gained insights into the Lithuanian healthcare system, learned best clinical practices, and became acquainted with the country’s culture.
At the farewell ceremony held at LSMU’s Emanuel Levinas Centre, Prof. Dr. Andrius Macas, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, presented them with certificates of clinical practice.
LSMU students will travel to Japan’s International University of Health and Welfare for similar experiences this autumn.
According to Prof. Ingrida Janulevičienė, Dean of the International Relations and Study Centre, the objective was to ensure that the students sent to Japan would represent the University well. They were required to meet specific selection criteria, including motivation, engagement, strong academic knowledge, communication skills, and openness to all cultures.
“There were a lot of applicants, making it difficult to leave some excellent students behind. We strived to maintain equal selection criteria for foreign and Lithuanian students, as well as for both male and female students. We had a comprehensive dataset to assess. We didn’t want to offend anyone, but we had to remain objective,” said the Dean in charge of student trips.
