LSMU Ranks Among the Top Two of Lithuania’s Public Universities for Third Year Running

In the 2025 rankings of Lithuanian public universities published by the Reitingai magazine, the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) has secured second place, following Vilnius University. LSMU has maintained this position for the third consecutive year.
This year, Lithuania’s public universities were assessed according to five criteria, with a maximum total score of 100 points. LSMU achieved its highest results in the following categories: value-added created by the alumni and employer opinion (31.6 out of 35 points), students and study process (16.1 out of 20 points), and existing and prospective academic staff (2.1 out of 5 points).
These results are particularly significant given that LSMU is a specialised university and yet successfully competes with larger higher education institutions offering a broader range of academic fields and study programmes.
The authors of the rankings note that in recent years the most intense competition has been for the second and third place — a positive trend for prospective students, as it highlights universities’ efforts to improve quality in various areas.
According to Professor Kęstutis Petrikonis, LSMU Vice-Rector for Studies, the university’s consistently strong performance in national rankings highlights the importance of strategic planning in delivering science-based education, preparing competitive graduates, and striving for academic excellence.
LSMU is committed to delivering science- and innovation-based education. Over the past decade, the University has been investing heavily in high-quality academic and research infrastructure. Its campuses feature new buildings, equipped with the latest, state-of-the-art technologies. These facilities embody LSMU’s guiding principle: the integration of studies, research, and clinical practice.
LSMU is now a competitor not only nationally and across Europe but also on a global level. Its medical study programme is internationally recognised, having been accredited in accordance with the standards of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).
In recent years, LSMU has achieved further notable results: it has received accreditation for the maximum period available, leads Lithuania in the fields of medicine and health sciences, and continues to hold strong positions in international rankings.
