“On Wednesday, a special ceremony was hosted at Žalgiris Arena, with the oath taken by more than a thousand graduates of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU).

Brought Together from All Over the World

This year, 1100 specialists graduated from the Faculties of Medicine, Odontology, Pharmacy, Nursing, Public Health, Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences of LSMU. Almost one in ten graduated with honours (120). The largest number of graduates are medical doctors (420).

Despite the intensive and responsible studies, the young people found time for more than just lectures and books. Some pursued sports in their spare time, while others were active in public life.

The graduates took a solemn oath in English: LSMU is one of the most international universities in the country. This year’s graduate class includes 228 graduates from foreign countries. Most of them are from Israel, Sweden, Germany, India, Spain, France, Great Britain and Lebanon.

Parents, other relatives, friends and the academic community gathered to congratulate the graduates on this important milestone.

Moments of celebration

“I am extremely happy. The studies have been hard, but this will give me and my family huge opportunities. I want to share this joy with all the people I care about,” said one of the medical graduates, surrounded by her family at the photo backdrop.

Other young people and their relatives also had the opportunity to capture the moments of the graduation and diploma ceremony. “It was a life-changing experience, both professionally and personally”, said other graduates about their studies at LSMU.

Graduates’ Victories are also the University’s Achievement

The award ceremony took place during a solemn meeting of the LSMU Senate. Having announced the beginning of the meeting, the Chairperson of the LSMU Senate, the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing of the LSMU Medical Academy, Prof. Jūratė Macijauskienė, addressed the graduates on this milestone day for the University community. “You are the most important people today”, J. Macijauskienė emphasised and thanked them for their dedication to their studies, determination, dreams, and contribution to progress.

Professor Rimantas Benetis, Rector of LSMU, pointed out that a universe of opportunities awaits graduates. “This is the universe where we will have to learn how to master technology, digitalisation, robotics, biotechnology, meet global challenges in the field of ecology,” said Mr Benetis, who expressed his hope that the knowledge and skills acquired at LSMU would help the graduates to forge successful professional and life stories.

“Every success and victory you have will be a success and victory of our Alma Mater. We will be happy and proud when you build a future that we cannot even imagine today,” said the Rector, thanking the alumni’s families for their support and trust in them and in LSMU.

Congratulations and kind words for the meaningful path chosen were also expressed by the Israeli Ambassador to Lithuania Hadas Wittenberg Silverstein, Japanese Ambassador Ozaki Tetsu, Kaunas Archbishop Metropolitan Kęstutis Kėvalas.

Margiris Alesius, President of the LSMU Student Union, wished the graduates strength, success, and not to forget the motivation that brought them to LSMU.

Traditionally, the deans of the faculties also addressed the graduates, reminding them that the doors of the University are always open and that the young health professionals will have to improve their knowledge and skills throughout their lives.

Second in the Top List

The celebration traditionally started with the National Anthem and student anthem Gaudeamus performed by the LSMU Academic Choir “Neris” (conducted by Prof. Tomas Lapinskas) and the professional jazz orchestra Kaunas Big Band (conducted by Vaidas Andriuškevičius).

Popular performer Jurgis Brūzga performed as a welcome guest in the musical programme

LSMU has risen to the second position in the list of the best Lithuanian state universities compiled by the “Reitingai” magazine.

The University has achieved high rankings according to the criteria of added value created by alumni and employers, students and studies, current and prospective academic staff, research, artistic and/or sporting activities, and highest academic achievements.

LSMU, one of the largest and most advanced universities in the Baltic countries with a European tradition in life, health, veterinary and agricultural sciences, has also been ranked highly among the world’s top universities in international rankings.
