Medical simulation centre
Medical simulation – an opportunity to modulate simple and complex clinical situations in practice without any harmful effect on the patient. Artificial mannequins, dummies, simulators imitating people or individual body parts are used during simulations. With the help of medical simulations, life-threatening situations are created in a safe environment , and by learning in such an environment, students, residents, and staff are able to acquire additional skills at a pace and rhythm suitable for them, improve teamwork, acquire practical resuscitation, treatment, diagnosis, patient care and other skills.
The simulation centre was installed in 2021. In the operating room block of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of Kaunas Clinics (II floor of the Trauma and Emergency Care Centre building). The virtual operating room was purchased from the funds of the LSMU’s project “LSMU activities aimed at improving the competences and qualifications of doctors (LSMU-GYD-KOM)” project No. 09,4,2-ESFA-V-715-05-0001. It is part of the EU-funded Tiered Competences project, with the aim of simultaneously improving the simulation environment in residency studies. This operating room is one of the first simulators purchased.
