ENVIRONMENT FOR RESEARCH,
STUDIES AND PRACTICE

The Faculty of Public Health of the Medical Academy LSMU  trains specialists who can work in the reformed Lithuanian healthcare system and are able to compete in the newly opening labour market of the European Union.

The Faculty of Public Health of LSMU differs from other faculties of the University in its social and humanitarian orientation, the provision of integrated knowledge about health and the opportunity to acquire the speciality of health management, social work or health psychologist. This opens up great employment opportunities in the reformed Lithuanian healthcare system.

Knowledge about the health of the Lithuanian population, the possibilities of its improvement, the development and implementation of health programmes and the principles of health policy formation are accumulated here.

The main tasks of the Faculty of Public Health are:

  • To ensure the quality of specialist training programmes, to strive to meet the requirements of the European Union and ASPHER.
  • To strive for accessibility to public health, social work and health psychology studies for young people and workers in the healthcare and related sectors.
  • To train specialists who can work in the reformed Lithuanian healthcare system and are able to compete in the newly opening labour market of the European Union.
  • To integrate into the international research space of public health and social sciences.

For the implementation of these tasks, the Faculty closely cooperates with various structural and functional departments of LSMU, academic and professional, non-governmental, state, business organisations and individuals of Lithuania and foreign countries.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND INNOVATION

The faculty has a scientific programme “Public Health Sciences”. The aim of the programme is to acquire and accumulate new knowledge to substantiate the principles of Lithuanian health policy, to improve the health, quality of life and health literacy of the population; to reveal new regularities of the impact of physical and social environmental factors on health, to search for new effective methods and tools for the control of these factors.

Research Topics:

  • Health, quality of life, lifestyle and health literacy of the Lithuanian population.
  • Development of the country’s health policy, the course of health reform, health economics, health inequalities; health effects of environmental (social, working conditions, pollution, etc.) factors.
  • Effects of environmental pollutants on the body and ways to reduce their harmful effects.
  • Application of preventive measures and implementation of health programmes.

The continuous and productive work of researchers is illustrated by the large number of scientific publications and activities in research projects.
