Erasmus+ studies and traineeships for incoming
The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (Lietuvos sveikatos mokslų universitetas, hereafter – LSMU) offers a wide variety of courses taught in English you can choose from as an exchange student.
Application Process
Below you will find information about required documents, health insurance, visas, and everything else related to application process.
How to apply
Application process after being nominated:
The Sending University’s Erasmus outgoing coordinator must nominate the student directly to the one of the LSMU Erasmus incoming coordinators. Once the nomination is confirmed, a link to the registration form will be sent directly to the nominated student via email.
Application and nomination deadlines:
- Autumn semester: 15th of May (for nominations) – 1st of June (for applications)
- Spring semester: 15th of November (for nominations) – 30th of November (for applications)
After registering on Mobility Online platform you will be asked to:
- Upload a formal photo;
- Upload a scanned copy of your passport or national ID-card (for european students).
- Upload a scanned copy of Transcript of Records of your previous study results.
- Upload a motivation letter (if applying for a traineeship).
- Upload a scanned copy of English language certificate. Accepted documents include TOEFL, IELTS, or a certificate confirming sufficient English language skills (at least B1 CEFR level) issued by the language department of your sending institution.
- Prepare a Learning Agreement (LA) or Online Learning Agreement.

Erasmus+ mobility
Erasmus+ exchange students coming to LSMU for studies must use the Online Learning Agreement (OLA) or a traditional Learning Agreement (LA) if their institution does not use the EWP system.
How do you arrange a study plan?
Faculty of Medicine: none of the selected compulsory subjects can overlap. All modules have specific dates, and the study plan must be arranged accordingly. Students in their 1st to 3rd years can choose modules from the first three years, while senior students can choose from all study years. Modules with exact dates will be sent directly to the students after their nomination.
Faculty of Veterinary Medicine: you can choose modules from any year, but we will check if you are meeting the requirements of the module, and we strongly advise focusing on a single year to minimise the risk of schedule overlaps. Parts of the modules can be chosen, but please ask coordinator Gerda (gerda.grigaite@lsmu.lt) for the list. If a module spans the entire academic year, it cannot be taken for just one semester.
Faculty of Pharmacy/Odontology/Public Health: you can choose modules from any year, but we strongly advise focusing on a single year to minimise the risk of schedule overlaps. If a module spans the entire academic year, it cannot be taken for just one semester.
Faculty of Nursing: no overlaps are allowed, all courses have to be taken from the same semester, unless the student chooses only practice modules. In that case, it is possible to combine practice modules from different semesters.
If any module description is needed, please contact one of the coordinators, indicating the module’s name and code. Then, the description will be sent directly via email.
First, make sure to receive confirmation about your course selection from one of the Erasmus+ Coordinators at LSMU. Once confirmation is received, you will be able to collect signatures on your Learning Agreement.
A traineeship can last from 2 months (no less than 60 days) up to 12 months.
Nominations or individual requests for an Erasmus+ traineeship must be sent directly to the coordinator, Paulina, no later than 3 months before the planned period. When contacting, please indicate the student’s full name, current study year, planned mobility period (from–to), and desired clinical department.
If the department agrees to accept the student, a registration form for the Mobility Online system will be shared. The student should then complete the Learning Agreement. Once the clinic confirms that the proposed plan is suitable, the document can be signed by all parties. Please note that it may take up to 5 weeks to complete the documentation process.
No acceptance letters are issued until all the required documentation has been completed.
Once the traineeship is completed, the “After Mobility” form must be completed. The form should be completed according to your Learning Agreement for Traineeships (LAT) and signed by your practice supervisor at LSMU. The document also contains evaluation of your practical skills during traineeship.
KA171 project participants
Students from partner institutions in non-EU countries may be eligible for funding from LSMU. The number of funded students is limited for each country.
All students must be officially nominated by their home university to one of the coordinators at LSMU.
Funded students receive 800€ per month, as well as a travel grant based on the distance in km:

The grant is paid twice: 90% of the total grant is transferred after arriving, and the remaining 10% after submission of all required documents*.
* At the end of the mobility, students will receive a questionnaire (by the European Commission Mobility Tool+) by e-mail directly. It is called “EU Survey“.
* For students coming for a traineeship, the completed and signed “After Mobility” form is required. * For students coming for a study mobility, all selected modules must be successfully completed.
Checklist
- After receiving confirmation, register in the Mobility Online system.
- Upload all the required documents and receive the acceptance letter.
- Obtain health insurance.
- Apply for a visa, if required.
- Find accommodation. Please book accommodation only after the Learning Agreement has been confirmed and signed by all three parties.
- If required by your home university, bring the Arrival Form to one of the Coordinators for signature.
- If necessary, make any changes to your Learning Agreement within two weeks of arrival.
- Apply for a temporary residence permit, if required.
- If you stayed in a dormitory, make sure that all dormitory fees have been paid and leave the room clean and tidy.
- If required by your home university, bring the Departure Form to one of the Coordinators for signature.
- You will receive your Transcript of Records by email within 5 weeks after the end of your studies.
Health insurance
Health Insurance is obligatory for international students at LSMU. There are two types of health insurance recognized in Lithuanian health care institutions:
- European Health Insurance Card
- Private health insurance
For traineeship mobility, students should also obtain liability and accident insurance.
The insurance shall be valid throughout the entire period of the study period and cover any expenses that might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention, emergency hospital treatment or death during the stay.
Visa and temporary residence permit
If your stay in Lithuania is planned for 3 months or more in a half of the year, you must apply for the residence permit confirming your right to reside in the Republic of Lithuania.

Students coming from any other country than the EU Member State shall apply for the visa. The application for the issue of a national visa D or C shall be submitted to the Embassy of Lithuania or VFS global visa application center.
If a mediation number is required, it will be issued by the university once the student’s application has been completed.

Student cards
Your national Student Card is unrecognizable in Lithuania. To get students’ discounts, you should get an ISIC or ESN.
We recommend getting an ISIC card in Kaunas if you did not get one in your home country.

The ESN card is a membership card of the Erasmus Student Network (ESN). It gives you access to various services offered by ESN and its partners. With the ESN card, you can enjoy a variety of discounts on accommodation, sports, food, bars, and more across Europe.

Student organisations
LSMU has its own local ESN section – ESN LSMU. It helps international students with academic, social, and practical integration through various activities, including cultural and social events, trips around Lithuania, movie nights, ect.
Also, ESN LSMU has a mentor system. Before starting your mobility at LSMU, you will receive a message from your buddy.
